For the hardest year of my life one of my only possessions was a cassette copy of 5/8/77 that was given to me in the early 90's. Every sound, every moment of this Scarlet/Fire is forever burned into my mind I played that tape so many times.

Songs of my youth, I was 14 when the song came out and it was so popular, and unique. Loved it. Now they have enhanced and improved that song, I wish I had the opportunity to go to one of their concerts in those days of the past. Wow.

The story behind this song is fascinating. Scott was attending a christian university (Lee University - Church of God affiliate). Someone turned him in for smoking weed. He had to go before the Board. He decided the best way to go was to be honest and ask for forgiveness. The Board expelled him instead.

The original by T.Rex was better. This version seems just a little "self-indulgent" and lacks something. It just sounds messy.

Santana did a version of this song on their Moonflower album.

Although this came out much later in the Stones catalog, this is a sneaky great song! Great lyrics, great sound. It’s very produced, which is not surprising considering it came out in ‘89, but it still has that undeniable Stones sound. Still holds up to this day.

That song was SO HUGE the summer before my son turned 3 (In August) and he would sing songs a lot from the radio. One weekend we had taken a family outing to Lowe's and it was on, but we had the biggest laugh when during the chorus, we hear one of the dock workers break out singing along at the top of his lungs! One of the most memorable trips of my son's childhood.

Adele performed this song with Burt Bacharach (who wrote the song) in concert in 2008. You should really check that out!

O'Connor can’t be mentioned in the same breath as Kate Bush. The character seen in the video was an actress who could sing a bit. The movie was absolutely awful, and the song - written for the movie, was her only hit - in fact it was the only hit from the movie. The sax solo(s) are wonderful and I believe what you are hearing is the stuff that normally goes on the cutting room floor. Especially when it’s a solo instrument (as a brass or string section will be scored) a session musician will be brought in, shown the charts or listen to the song, then be asked to add some flavour, and then often to do a solo on the bridge. It’s entirely normal for a player to then do three or four runs through the bridge. The producer can then pick the one he likes and use that. The rest go in the bin. In this situation, the producer decided to play them all, there are at least three, plus one very low key one that would have blended with a voice or other instrument. Some of the very best solos you'll ever hear are played by people you'll probably never hear of.
